I wear a uniform

I wear a uniform.

I am not a nurse, a bus driver, a policeman or a firefighter.

But I wear a uniform.

This is my uniform.

I cant recall where I found this photo, but make no mistake, this IS my uniform.

I vary the accessories - the shoes, the necklace, the bag, the bracelets, maybe a scarf but essentially the base is always the same....

Stark white,

Black (or navy),

Loose top (or tank) or sweater covering my bum,

Nothing tucked in

Sometimes the pants are slightly wider

Very little colour & usually in the accessories

Very little print & usually in the accessories

The uniform is my casual daywear. I have another uniform for work & another for going out (separate posts on those later).

If you have a uniform, the chances are that:

1. You are older (dont ask me to define this!!)

2. You have a strong sense of (fashion) self, meaning you understand your body shape & colouring & dress accordingly.

3. You've been through fads & trends in your earlier years

4. You favour ease in getting dressed, meaning you generally have whatever you need to wear, accessible in your wardrobe

5. You feel comfortable in your uniform so you can get on with your life - you arent self conscious in your clothes

6. You have many duplicated pieces & they all get worn because you know what shapes & colours work for you.
If your duplicates arent getting worn, there is a chance your "uniform" is accidental/random/not deliberate - or you may simply be in a rut - see me later on this.

I am not the only one with a uniform.
Check out the following babes...

                                                          The Queen has a uniform

The Late Princess Diana had a summer uniform

                                  & a winter uniform

& an evening uniform.

Sienna Miller has a (boho country) uniform (although she is deliberately
changing it in the last 12 months or so)

Eva Mendes has a very distinctive summer
                                                           uniform of floral dresses

Jessica Alba has a very consistent uniform of jeans,
                                                                  top, jacket & scarf

Jennifer Aniston has a uniform of jeans, dark jacket & neutral solid tops.

As the weather lightens, she removes the jacket & softens the top

Or she may wear cargos or a spot of colour.
But the uniform remains the same.

The only bad thing the uniform can be accused of is that its boring.  But no-one that has a uniform & works it well would agree with this.

The uniform saves you money - because all your pieces are interchangeable & you can get more mileage from everything (cost per wear goes down).

The uniform saves you time.

Do you have a uniform?

Is there a celebrity whose style you admire? Chances are they have a uniform. Google their clothes & see if their uniform could be your uniform.

If you cant figure out what their uniform is, just ask me!

Cup of tea break - a few piccies to ponder on....

A few recent piccies to ponder on.....

Kate in California in a "green lawn" Diane von Furstenburg "Maja" dress
with DVF small printed snake minaudiere in "popcorn black/blush"

Loving her in colour...I was getting very bored with her cream/navy looks....

From the DVF look book....

I dont mind how the ruched boots are styled with the longer "socks" in toning colour...looks like a long line, moving the eye up & down...nice!

Kim K in a Balmain jacket & Hermes Birkin bag & new hair colour (?)
Hit or miss?

Jen in a Prada print! Holy cow! An alien has invaded her body!!!
Hit or miss?

Eva L in Herve Leger & Brian Atwood pumps.....
Love the Look? or Only OK?

Keira Knightley in a yellow Whistles pleated skirt and Ralph Lauren bag (& Tiffany necklace)
Hit or Miss?

A Karen Walker version as shown in the current Aussie Marie Claire (with a Witchery sweater)
$420.
Dont fret - I am sure we will see a gazillion versions on the hi street at less than half that price.

Dont be THAT GIRL

This post is dedicated to a friend of mine (she'll know who she is when she reads this), who knows not to be THAT GIRL. My nameless friend - keep the faith!

Lets go back a bit -

Anyone remember the US sit com That Girl starring Marlo Thomas?

Baby boomers & Gen X will say Yes!

Gen Y would perhaps remember the actress (without realising it) as Rachel Greene's mother on Friends......photoshopping & airbrushing aside, boy does she look great!....

Well, here's more of the detail....

That Girl was an American TV sit com which ran on ABC from 1966 to 1971. A lot of you wont remember it and I was certainly quite short at that time, but I have seen some of the re-runs.

It starred Marlo Thomas as the title character, Ann Marie, an aspiring actress, who had moved from a small town to New York. Despite sporadic employment, she managed to keep a spacious Manhattan apartment as well as an extensive wardrobe of mod fashions. Eye candy!

That Girl was the first sitcom to focus on a single woman who was not in a domestic or living at home situation and it is considered a forerunner to shows like Mary Tyler Moore & Murphy Brown and the feminist movement in Australia.

Ann Marie had a boyfriend and became engaged toward the end of the series but interestingly they didn’t marry by the final episode. Apparently, the decision to leave the couple engaged at the end of the series was largely the idea of Thomas herself. She did not want to send a message to young women that marriage was the ultimate goal for them.

Well, Ann Marie may have been a positive role model, but this post is about bad role models

This post is about not being THAT GIRL!

So I'm not talking about any 70's sit com character or actress!

In this context, THAT GIRL does things that make you go yuck!!!!

Here's the list....print it, paste it on your bathroom door or vanity mirror - memorise it....then avoid doing any of it, ever, ever.

  • Poorly fitting clothes (too big, too small, cuffs too long, shoulders not sitting right, hem too short, hem too long, the list goes on)
  • Chipped nail polish
  • Laddered hoisery
  • Hairy legs & armpits
  • Unintentional messy hair
  • Dragon lady fingernails

  • Chewed, rough fingernails with unkept cuticles
  • Open toed shoes with fine hose
  • Unintentionally unco-ordinated clothes
  • Unintentionally clingy clothes
  • Unintentionally revealing clothes
  • Dirty & scuffed shoes
  • Chipped or worn down heels
  • Unintentional see through or gaping clothes
  • Out dated make up
  • Lipstick on teeth
  • Same hairstyle for at least 3 years
  • Visible panty line (VPL)
  • Noisy clothes or jewellery where noise isnt called for
  • Inappropriate appearance (this is very broad..hehehe)

Alot of this stuff is just habit - get into the habit of not walking out the front door with any of these bad habits.

Do this for 21 days & it gets easier.

Dont be THAT GIRL!

I'd LOVE to here from you about more things that make you go yuck!!!!!
