Sometimes its so darned bad it deserves to be written about.
When there is nothing remotely good about it, yes it deserves ink wastage writing about it.
This blog post is an example of THAT Girl - her name is Katherine Heigl.
And its about how accessories can make, or in this case, break an outfit.
Lets backtrack first....as far as style is concerned, an often girl crush of mine is Katherine Heigl - the ex doctor on Grey's Anatomy & now movie star - Knocked Up, 27 Dresses, Life As We Know It, The Ugly Truth & Killers.
You see, I think she gets the sartorial thing right most of the time. Both on & off the red carpet.
Firstly, when we see her off the red carpet, she looks so darned normal - even casual but always with a smart designer bag & smart co-ordinates.
Cropped jeans, flatties, minimal jewellery, statement sunnies, leather jacket...
Simple chic dress, not too short, statement sunnies, leather belt (not those cheapie self fabric belts), fine necklaces layered, great python tote
Easy wear sun dress with mustard bag
Travelling - trench, sunnies, big scarf, leggins
Casual jeans, bright cardi under simple tee with sunnies
How can you not relate to her sense of normality yet niceness of her clothes? huh?
There are literally hundreds and hundreds of photos of her on the web like this - I havent cherry picked the best photos - cross my heart & hope to die....please believe me.
The other thing i love, love, love, love about this girl is that she re-wears her accessories. Even if she is getting them for free, she re-uses! Love that sense of reducing waste & minimising her carbon foot print. But more importantly, I love the fact that she loves her stuff so much she wants to re-wear it. Go girl!
Here are some "I love my...." for KH...
I love my Hogan bag....
I love my Valentino tote....
I love my Chanel tote...
Now look at red carpet & promotional clothes - really nice!
In Escada...
more Escada & she happens to make a label that has at that time become boring & staid, into something sparkly & exciting & old world glamourous.
In Zac Posen - denim, yes, (white) denim....
You may be interested to know that Zac posen repoduced this dress for Target Australia - yes, Australia for $299AU in red & black....but only 50 were made...
Classic LBD promoting the 27 hideous dresses!.....
Cool day ensemble....love this!
Wedges (comfy), cardi, leather belt, pencil skirt, what's not to love?
Great frock for cocktails...
Another great frock - blue looks great on her...
Apart from the medical scrubs
and the hideous monstrosities in 27 Dresses....
...she cant do much wrong in my book.....
Until this month - May 2011.....
when she turns up at the airport in....ta da!!!
How can she do this to me? Take another look at this airport look....YYEEUUUCCKKKK!!!
In case you didnt get a good enough look the first time, here it is again in larger pixels or whatever you call those photographic things.....
Hahahaha - sorry to do that to you, dear readers! just making sure you are aware of all the gory details....
Horrible.
Its all in the accessories.
Now I actually "get" the "more is more" look - the layering loads of stuff which makes loads of noise....seriously, I DO get it.
But in THIS case, KH should have taken something off as she left the house in the morning.
In fact, that was Coco Chanel's advice to well dressed women - please Katherine, take it.
Lets break it down - the brown plaited leather belt (hello 90s) doesnt fit in with anything else in the look...
The gold earrings - why wear with a casual look like this? better with a cocktail look....
The red ball necklace....a bit earthy, a bit of pop, but not with this look.
The matching red geometric bangles - too weird & out of place, too dominant for this look.
The glasses - make he look like an insect or a bug - they are a huge accessory on their own - & mixed with everything else, no, no, no.
Ballet flats in a neutral skin tone - good.
Softly shaped jacket - good.
Straw tote - good.
The other nylon pale blue tote - not so good.
Hair? bad hair day for sure - that certainly doesnt help.
Someone mentioned that maybe she didnt have the stylist on hand, having just stepped off a plane. Poor girl. My heart bleads....hahaha
But the most tragic thing is that she doesnt look sloppy like she got dressed in the dark....it looks very orchestrated & deliberate. Please dont be THAT Girl!
