WIW: Shop your closet - Versace lost then found

I had completely forgotten I had this magenta jacket until I saw it a couple of days ago on the rack. It became the hero piece of today's outfit. That's shopping my closet at it's best.

The jacket

Versace Jeans Couture in a woven wool, fully lined.
Very bright.
About 9 years old & I owuldnt have paid more than $150 for it. It as from the David Jones Warehouse & back then, it was a great place to shop for designer items.

Always love faux button holes on the cuffs.

The top

A new Coles Mix tee in 100% cotton, in a mint colour.
$6. If you had told me I would be combining mint & magenta, I never would have believed you. The mint picked up the green in the leaves of the flowers on the jacket.

The scarf

The day was quite mild so technically I didnt need a scarf.
However I like to wear one just to shield the collar of the jacket from skin debris and oils.

Its alot easier to wash a scarf than to launder a jacket.

Its a ribbon wool rose colour from the Farage warehouse sale. It was $10. Its a few shades different from the jacket, but in the same colour family.

The jeans

Not Your Daughters Jeans
My standard. Enough said.

The necklaces

A sterling fashion cross.
A costume pink skull from Isabel Marant via ebay for $50.
A magnifying glass on a black rubber chain - my current favourite.

The bracelets

A motley crew of bits including my beloved Bottega bangle.
I also really like the silicon pink baby - $20 from Reverie in Putney.

The rings

You've seen these before.

The shoes

Gucci lizards in red-y tone. Small wood stacked kitten heel.
From a designer recycled store in Paddington which is way overpriced so I dont go there much these days. But these were reduced (the shape is way too conservative for Paddington-ites) to $120. A steal.

Love the black piping along the edges & the symmetry of the pattern.

Speak tomorrow.

WIW: Orange pops a gangster Armani

Today I looked at the jackets racks and picked one I hadnt worn for a while.

The Jacket

A main line Giorgio Armani which I purchased from ebay for around $100. Its a wool with an unusual chalk/pin stripe pattern. A bit gangster and that's why what I wear with it is important - so that I dont look like a gangster.

Love the way the cuff buttons are done - so precise with the stitching & the placement.

This photo refuses to rotate....but the Bonds white tee is very standard.

STYLE TIP: Have a few white tees in your wardrobe as they do stain & grey over time. Make sure the shade of white you have is your BEST white. Mine is white-white. But yours may be off-white or cream or pearl.

The jeans

I wore my wide legged cheapie Philosophy jeans. The only things that was necessary today was that the jeans were rolled up to show off the shoes. No other consideration applied.

The scarf

With a heavy jacket like this, I needed a scarf with depth & a touch of colour. This saturated Etro fit the bill perfectly. Its 100% wool in a thick weave but the scarf itself is lightweight.

I picked it up at Sydney airport, duty free when I was leaving the country about 5 years ago. It wasnt cheap, but its a lifetime purchase.

The bling

From left to right:

A dark wire mesh ring which can be moulded to any shape. from Beautiful Things By at Beecroft for $60. Hard to wear this without playing with the bauble.

A three snake ring in antique gold tones from Mania Mania from The Corner Shop in Paddington. About $70.

Various bracelets including a bold grey Jolly Venezia from Silva Guanta in Mosman.

A long antique gold tone & coral Isabel Marant necklace from The Corner Shop in The Strand Arcade, Sydney.

The short star necklace is from the Witchery Kids range. It was $10 and works well as a layering piece.

The shoes

Tory Burch patent orange ballet flats. From the Luisa sale at one of the Sydney Hilton sales. Less than $200. Really cute, but I dont wear them often as I still havent got round to putting soles on the bottom.

A bright pair of shoes in orange pops with this outfit, even though the other accessories & scarf work the red theme.

STYLE TIP: If two colours are close together on the colour wheel you can often use them interchangeably as accents in an outfit.

See you tomorrow.

What I Wore: Pre loved memories from NY's Upper East Side

Another COLD day when I needed to wear a jacket but wanted to wear a comfy sweater.

Enter Mr Armani.

The jacket

70% cashmere, 30% silk
from La Boutique Resale in New York's Upper East Side.

I dont travel alot, but when I do, I like to shop to remember the trip. Any excuse, eh?

La Boutique in NY has three stores. The one I picked this up from was the least "impressive". By that I mean it doesnt have windows dedicated to Hermes & Chanel....but when you go through the racks there are amazing finds. The address was 227 E 81st St. The other stores are in Madison Ave & Lexington Ave.

I paid $60US for this.  RRP would be about $2K.

I never do up the buttons even though its double breasted. It has a softness about it that goes hand in hand with an open front.

Its a mid grey with small pale blue dots with a tinge of green. Look at the next photo - which shows the detail of the finishing. Perfect. Love. Alot.

The scarf

The scarf is a 100% lambswool Country Road. Back in the day when Country Road did 100% wool, let alone doing it for $60. Now, $60 gets you 100% acrylic.

I also have this scarf in a pale pink - when the range went on sale, I bought the pink one to keep the blue one company.

The jeans

My cheapie Philosophy Australia $20 jeans, rolled up boyfriend style. In fact, Philosophy is having a warehouse sale soon - I'd better check the dates.

The top

A Coles Mix 100% wool sweater in black. I paid $25 for this last winter & its pilled a bit, but pilling comes off with those little gizmo battery operated machines.

The necklaces

Both are Isabel Marant. The one with the green beads was from The Corner Shop in the Strand Arcade, around $250.
The grey pear drop was recycled from The Frock Exchange for $90.

The rings

I think you've met both of these before. The "scarf ring" ring by Maison Martin Margiela & the Bottega intercaccio which was from ebayland.

The bracelets

On one wrist, the ebayland Bottega bangle and a $3 Diva religious tile bracelet.

When I bought the Diva one, "you get what you pay for" came true. Every time i wore it, my wrist would be covered in green paint. So I laquered the underside on the tiles & it was still happening. Another coat of lacquer & the problem stopped. Alot of trouble to go to for $3, but now that its done, Val = happy.

On the other wrist, a Hermes bangle in a pale blue. This was form ebay from one of the Japanese lady sellers who have loads of integrity and great stock. It was $300 which is very cheap for one of those babies.

The shoes

A very comfy mocassin loafer in navy, not sexy, but practical with a decent heel, by Antonio Barbato (Venice).

See you tomorrow.
