2012 Met Ball New York - the fashion Oscars!

For those that may not be aware, the annual New York Costume Institute Gala Benefit is viewed as the Oscars of fashion.

The ball celebrates the opening of the annual fashion exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The ball organisation is overseen by Anna Wintour of US Vogue.

I have created an album on my Favebook page with 155 photos (& growing) of the red carpet attendees, who pay approx $25,000 per ticket to attend.

I'd love it if you could view the album and write your comments - faves, not so faves, disasters!

In the mean time, here is a quick summary of the trends.

But some background first:

This year's exhibition is Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations.
(last year it was for Alexander McQueen).

So it was only fitting that the most popular designer of choice was Miuccia Prada's Prada & some Miu Miu, with a theme of silk satin and carefully placed gemstones.

Next popular seemed to be Givenchy, with alot of body con dresses with feathers on the hems.

There was also a sprinkling of Ralph Lauren Collection, Tory Burch, Alexander McQueen (& MCQ by Alexander McQueen), Zac Posen, Calvin Klein,  Vera Wang, Rachel Zoe, Valentino, Versace & even two Topshops!

The themes that emerged:

Very dark lipstick
Frizzy hair
Fair skin (not everyone was sporting a spray tan this year!)

Metallics, especially gold

Black - goth &
Black - wet look

Reds & oranges

White

Yellows

 Minis

Peplums

Blues, both pastel, brights & navys

Toilet roll tulle
